Early Access roadmap
Major Update 1 (Q1 2027) adds Box Mode, quest, event and pet editors plus four classes. Update 2 (Q2) adds dungeon, boss and mount editors. Update 3 (Q3) adds the class and spell editors. 1.0 (Q4) brings the modding framework.
The Early Access plan is four phases: three major updates and the 1.0 release, each described as a three-month sprint, with status shared monthly. This is the roadmap as published at launch, feature by feature.
The four phases
| Phase | ETA | Headline features | Recurring items |
|---|---|---|---|
| Major Update 1 | Q1 2027 | Box Mode (fully automatic world), Quest Editor, Event Editor, Pet Editor | 4 new classes, new editor assets, simulation improvements, community requests |
| Major Update 2 | Q2 2027 | Dungeon Editor, Boss Editor, Mount Editor | 4 new classes, new editor assets, more Workshop integration, simulation improvements, community requests |
| Major Update 3 | Q3 2027 | Class Editor, Spell Editor | 4 new classes, new editor assets, more Workshop integration, simulation improvements, community requests |
| 1.0 Release | Q4 2027 | Modding framework | 4 new classes, new editor assets, more Workshop integration, simulation improvements, community requests |

Every phase carries four new classes, so the roadmap implies sixteen classes arriving across the Early Access period on top of whatever ships at launch.
What each update unlocks for a world
| Phase | The practical change |
|---|---|
| Update 1 | You can stop relying on generated quests and write your own; a fully automatic mode exists for people who want to watch rather than build |
| Update 2 | Interiors and named encounters; dungeons, bosses and mounts turn a surface map into a place with destinations |
| Update 3 | Classes and spells become authored content rather than shipped content |
| 1.0 | Code-level modding, which is what the Workshop snowball needs to keep rolling |
Box Mode is the one to watch
Box Mode is described as a fully automatic world, explicitly inspired by Worldbox, and it is the feature that changes who the game is for. The launch build requires the player to build and design; Box Mode would let the simulation run a world with minimal input.
It is also the reason the developer gives for deprioritising a mobile port: the port would work best once Box Mode exists. If you are waiting for the automatic-god-game experience, Q1 2027 is the date to circle, and everything before it is the manual build.
What the roadmap does not promise
| Not on the roadmap | Status |
|---|---|
| Mac and Linux support | Described as coming in the upcoming months, outside the four-phase list |
| Mobile port | Planned, no priority before Update 1 |
| DnD grid exports | Described as coming in the upcoming months |
| Demo return | Promised after a rework, no date |
| Multiplayer | Not mentioned anywhere in the launch material |
Those gaps matter as much as the listed features. If multiplayer is what you want, this roadmap will not get you there in the Early Access window.
How to read Early Access dates
Three cautions, all of them earned by how Early Access usually goes:
- Quarters are intentions. A solo developer with a three-month sprint plan is describing a target, not a contract. Slippage on one phase pushes every later phase.
- "Community requests" is a bucket, not a promise. Each phase lists it, which means the contents are partly undecided by design.
- The list is the headline, not the changelog. Simulation improvements appear in all four phases without specifics; that is where most of the actual behaviour change will happen.
Should you buy now or wait
Buy now if you want the editors: world, region, zone, POI, NPC, creature, race, item and equipment authoring are all in the launch build, and Steam Workshop works from day one.
Wait if you want to author stories. Quest and event editors are Q1 2027, and without them the political life of a world is generated rather than written.
The Early Access state page has the full in/out list, and the price and platforms page covers what buying now costs.
